why i paint on cardboard
I paint on cardboard to illustrate the transitory nature of the prison space. A place where everything is in a state of flux: how long you’re here, where you live, who you live with, even if I’m allowed to go to the space where I create my art. Nothing is settled or established to the point where it can’t be altered, changed or restricted on a whim by someone in a position of power. Cardboard reflects this. It’s useful yet impermanent, which is why it’s one of the mediums I use to illustrate the constant tension and controlled chaos of the prison space.
